Changing Perceptions
What shattered my perception about cannabis culture was a visit to Blunt Brothers Cafe on Hastings Street in Vancouver, BC. From that moment in 2003, "marijuana" became something totally different. Growing up in the 80's caused many psychological scars that are still healing to this day. It was the chaotic time of AIDS, Ronald Reagan, 'The Day After' and Just Say No. What I encountered was nothing like the horrifying anti-marijuana PSAs that my young brain had been saturated with.
I am not proud to admit that I'm a product of television. It sounds like a latchkey kid stereotype when I say that television really was my friend, teacher and companion. TV shaped how I saw the world--I guess that's why they're called "programs". To a ferociously curious 8-year-old, a small black & white television was like a window into other worlds. It was a mysterious box of wonder, especially when you tuned it into the UHF channels.
But, that's not the point of the story. Or maybe it is? I found that the world of cannabis is filled with stories. Every strain has a history and a story.
This where mine begins.
